Das 1913 von Nini (1884–1943?) und Carry Hess (1889–1957) gegründete Fotostudio gehörte zu den angesehensten in Deutschland. Das innovative Frankfurter Bühnengeschehen dieser Jahre hielten sie in Szenenfotos und Rollenporträts fest. Eindrucksvolle Bildnisse von Stars wie Heinrich George und Mary Wigman, Thomas Mann, C. G. Jung oder Max Beckmann belegen die Qualität ihrer Arbeit, in der sie sich der Bildsprache des Neuen Sehens annäherten. Das mit Zerstörung des Ateliers in der Reichspogromnacht 1938 vernichtete Werk der Fotografinnen wird anhand von ca. 120 Vintage-Prints umfassend rekonstruiert.
