Ein zentraler Aspekt antiker Bildkultur ist der Bilderboom, der sich unter dem ersten römischen Kaiser Augustus Bahn bricht. Ehrenstatuen, Staatsreliefs und Münzen mit dem Bild des Kaisers sind in einer bis dahin unvorstellbaren Dichte präsent. Neben die öffentlich-politische Bildkultur treten im privaten Kontext andere Themen, insbesondere aus der Welt des Bacchus oder der Venus. Der opulente Band zeigt über 200 Werke der augusteischen Zeit aus den großen Museen Europas.
Since 2012, Dr. Annette Haug has been Professor of Classical Archaeology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. Dr. Haug was also PI of the ERC Consolidator Grant “Decorative Principles in Late Republican and Early Imperial Italy” from 2016-2022. She is also former Co-Speaker and actual PI of the Cluster of Excellence ROOTS.
